Orlando Food Network

The Orlando Food Network is Sunrise Orlando's project to end food deserts in the Orlando area and ensure healthy and affordable food for all.

What is a Food Desert?

A food desert is an urban area where people lack access to supermarkets and affordable, healthy foods, usually in low-income communities. People in these communities live more than one mile away from a supermarket; these areas are often filled with fast food chains and require a car to reach healthy and fresh food.

Our Mission

We’re fighting against food deserts by creating food resources and connecting the community to preexisting sources. We’re building community gardens and advocating for better local policy to end food deserts.

As of January 2025 we’ve fundraised $1,120 towards the Orlando Food network garden through community markets, concerts and grants.  Our work towards building community gardens has multiple benefits to the community, such as providing fresh produce, gardening knowledge, third spaces, and helping the environment.

Our first garden is planned at Majestic Life church on Kirkman Road. We have begun construction of the garden, using our powerful volunteer base to create a meaningful impact. Our volunteers have collaborated with the church to design and fundraise for the garden. Majestic Life will be maintaining the garden through their church members, and the food that is grown will be donated to their weekly public food drive.

Our goal is to help communities set up the garden in all Orange County districts and assist in the transition of finding local committed volunteers to run it in the future.

Help us build community gardens and end food deserts all across Orange County by donating!
