Who We Are

Sunrise Movement Orlando is a youth-led community and climate advocacy group fighting for bold economic and environmental change. With corporations and special interests dominating our politics and putting our future at risk, we’re creating a culture of Orlando over profit.

Our goals as an organization are winning Green New Deal policies, ending the rule of out-of-touch, bought and paid-for politicians, giving power back to the people, and making Orlando the beautiful, bold, and green city it was always meant to be.

This call will be an opportunity for specific candidates to have an in-depth discussion with our members and request endorsement from the general body of Sunrise Orlando. This will be a Zoom call where candidates can expand upon where they stand on important issues. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions of each candidate before we vote as an organization to decide if we will be offering endorsement.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the People Over Parking Coalition’s Wider Won’t Work Rally! At our rally we advocated for greater investment into public transit, sustainable infrastructure, the removal of parking mandates, and overall a push towards an Orlando where people can choose how they get around! Though the Transportation Sales Tax has been postponed until 2026, we will continue to advocate for better transit options, and we will be focusing on the removal of parking mandates in the upcoming Orange Code!

UPDATE: The Transportation Sales Tax has been postponed until 2026! While we are disappointed that the discussion resulted in the initiative being set back altogether, we still have work to do as the Orange Code is still in the works! Last Saturday we came out to @madsoulfestival hosted by @maxwellfrostfl ! We had a great time engaging with the community about our local and national initiatives, meeting with other organizers and our elected officials, as well as listening to many great musical artists! Thanks again to @maxwellfrostfl and everyone who made this amazing event possible! We’d like to thank everyone who showed out for our Hike at Wekiwa Springs! We had a blast exploring the park and admiring the beautiful scenery! A special shout-out to the candidates who signed our No Fossil Fuel Pledge, and showed their commitment to a greener and more sustainable future!

Today we came out to the Orange County Board of County Commisioners to join @savesplitoak and @splitoakforest for a press conference and public comment in defense of Split Oak Forest. Split Oak is currently under threat of being bisected by a proposed toll road development by the Central Florida Expressway Authority. We would like to thank the organizers for all their hard work in defending this conservation and the rights of Orange County citizens!
